![]() Fines from hitting other cars or going over the speed limit seem more expensive than with the past game, which makes keeping hard-earned money a bit more difficult. Players also need to be aware of getting fines from police keeping an ever vigilant watch for traffic offenders. Many of the new cargo types required longer trucks compared to the previous game, which makes both turning around corners and parking at destinations more challenging. For starters, there is an endless amount of contracts available around California and Nevada to haul everything from new cars to gasoline. The cities also feel more alive with denser traffic and more perhipheral activity, in the form of helicopters flying above and police patrolling the streets.Įven with only two states at launch, there is plenty available to keep you trucking along. The coastal region, speaking of San Francisco in particular, looks absolutely fantastic. That said, the environments, even if being mostly deserts, do contain more visual detail than Europe locations in the past. I'm hoping that with the addition of more states, the massive size of the United States feels more lifelike. Making a trek from San Francisco to Las Vegas-an eight-hour drive-is relatively brief in-game. As with Euro Truck Simulator 2, the environments are compressed compared to their real-life counterparts. While California and Nevada have some fun cities to drive through, their surroundings are mostly desert and not often very interesting to look at. Even more unfortunate, only two types of trucks are currently available, due to licensing issues. Unfortunately, American Truck Simulator isn't there yet: it launched with only two states, California and Nevada. Even more so, doing it in a classic American truck, hauling cargo from Chicago to New York, or one of many other cities. Europe was great, but I was intrigued by driving across the United States in a big rig. Back in January, they announced that a Kansas expansion would follow Oklahoma, and last month they announced that work was also underway in Nebraska.Īll of which is on top of ongoing efforts to revamp the previously released California, one of the game's two original states.Īmerican Truck Simulator is one of our picks for the best non-violent games on PC, which obviously fails to consider how often I crash into other vehicles on the road.As a fan of Euro Truck Simulator 2, I have been anticipating the launch of American Truck Simulator for some time. In August, SCS released an Oklahoma expansion. There are a bunch of screenshots through in the annoucement post. ![]() "While hauling cargo, you will be able to not only see these beautiful landscapes and areas, but travel through a variety of large and small towns and cities, where you'll find industries, landmarks and more." "Located in the south-central region of the United States, the state is a nature wonderland with three national forests, over 40 State Parks, nearly 9,000 miles of pristine streams and rivers like the Arkansas and Mississippi, as well as the ever-stretching Ozark and Quachita mountain ranges," says the announcement blog. That means there's a long way to go before it completely unites the states as one country under 18-wheels, but SCS Software are continuing their efforts with the announcement of a third in-development expansion: Arkansas. American Truck Simulator has, by my count, now added eleven extra states as DLC over and above the two it launched with.
